Stock Providers: Love 'em or Lose 'em!

Sat Jul 4, 2009, 3:28 PM
Lately I've seen a number of stock artists complaining that their images are being abused. This distresses me greatly, as some of my favourite stockists have started withdrawing their work, and many more are threatening to do so...

So my plea is a simple one, but heartfelt. Please, if you're using someone else's photography/textures/brushes or any other resources to make your art, read and follow their rules. It's SO easy, and so worthwhile.

Sure this is the internet, but you have to remember that it simply would not exist without its users; you, me, and them. They're all people! I know, it's easy to forget that. And the vast majority of them are sharing their images for free, their only reward for which is seeing how their work has been used.

Now I don't want to get too preachy about this, but stop and think for a moment; if you shared something of yours with a stranger or a friend, for free, and then found out they'd taken it, claimed it as their own, and maybe even sold it... how would you feel?

In summary: Credit your resources. A tiny effort for an enormous reward.

:thanks:

Yep stockists definitely need more love :aww: ...sometimes I just give up as takes ages to shoot photos, scan vintage postcards, put on 20 or 30 images a time - to get nothing back in turn is disheartening :( Luckily I have a few brilliant watchers who keep me here...

Happens to me all the time :cries: - faving into a stock faves folder at outset would help us know which pieces are most useful. Personally I add a _quaddles in my title so its easy to know which stock is mine - I know many others don`t do that though, must make it hard to match up an image to the stockist?

Recently one of mine was used, got a DD with no mention of me, luckily it was my most used image so got reported by many of my watchers who recognised it - of course once it was bought up the link was put in... I didn`t know until a week later though any of it even happened!

I have the biggest hug in the world for you right now.

I don't think there's an emote for it, but I'm definitely feelin' it. :) Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Right back at you! :glomp:

Y'know, when I read your words this morning about that other guy's journal, I found it quite amusing/ironic/saddening all at the same time. I was too wound up by it to comment at the time though; I don't think I could respond to that without being vulgar. :x

If there are any other ways people like me can help people like you, please just let me know. I don't have a lot of watchers, but I reckon I can make myself heard. ;)

No, thank YOU! ;) All of you.

It was dA's stock that got me into digital art in the first place. I wish there was a better way of giving thanks for all the inspiration I've gained from all of you.

Just the fact that you care enough to speak out means huge amounts to the stock community. Really. :)
